Colorado-Wyoming Optimist Clubs

present the

Tri-Star Basketball Competition

We regret to inform all of our Tri-Star Basketball contestants and families that we have put the contest on hold. It would be very difficult to protect everyone’s health at an event that includes so much personal contact.
If the situation improves and the NBA begins play again, and we can locate gyms space that would allow us to complete this year’s contest, we will notify those who had qualified for the regional completions.
Please reach out to the regional coordinators listed on this site if you have further questions.

Tri-Star Basketball is for boys and girls between the age of 8 and 13.

The competition begins in January and February when Optimist Clubs in Colorado and Wyoming
sponsor Local Contests.  Kids compete against others in their own age and gender group
(12 groups) in 3 skills: dribbling, shooting and passing.  Awards are given to the winners of each
group.   For a detailed description of the skills competition, click on Competition Description.

1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of each Local Contest are invited to a Regional Tournament that
is held in Northern Colorado, Southern Colorado, East Denver or West Denver.   The Regional
Tournaments are usually held in late February or in March.

Regional 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners are invited to compete at the District Finals held before
a Nuggets game (usually in late March or in April). District 1st place winners are announced to the
crowd before the game and District 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners participate in the Fan Tunnel
where they greet the Nuggets players as they enter the court.
