Tri-Star Basketball Competition

A basketball skills contest

for kids 8-13 years of age

Tri-Star Basketball is for boys and girls between the age of 8 and 13 (on March 15, 2010).

The competition begins in January and February when Optimist Clubs in Colorado and Wyoming sponsor Local Contests.  Kids compete against others in their own age and gender group (12 groups) in 3 skills: dribbling, shooting and passing.  Awards are given to the winners of each group.   For a detailed description of the skills competition, click on Competition Description.

1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of each Local Contest are invited to a Regional Tournament that is held in Northern Colorado, Southern Colorado, East Denver or West Denver.   The Regional Tournaments are usually held in March.

Regional 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners are invited to compete at the District Finals held at the Pepsi Center before a Nuggets game (usually in April). District 1st place winners are announced to the crowd before the game and District 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners participate in the Fan Tunnel where they greet the Nuggets players as they enter the court.
